Spindle bearings of a jig drilling machine
There is no oil here, but grease: the bearings are packed with XADO revitalizing grease during assembly of the unit, once for the entire service life.
Spindle bearings of a jig drilling machine: treatment with XADO grease
The class methodology calculates the rate in ml per liter of oil. Here there is no oil at all: the dose is specified as a volume of grease for a particular bearing size. Jig Boring Machines →
What is treated
- Serviceable bearings without limiting wear and macromechanical damage.
What is measured before and after
| Parameter | Instrument | How and when |
|---|---|---|
| Radial runout and radial play of the spindle seat | indicator stand | — |
| Axial play of the spindle | indicator stand | — |
| Ovality and taper of the bore of the machined part | bore gauge | — |
| Surface roughness after boring | profilometer | At fixed cutting modes. |
| Vibration level of the spindle bearing supports | vibrometer | — |
Dosage rates
| Compound | Rate | How and when |
|---|---|---|
| XADO "Revitalizing" grease — bearing 2213 (radial roller) | 35–40 ml per bearing | Applied once. |
| The same grease — bearing 8115 (thrust) | 25–30 ml per bearing | Applied once. |
Treatment stages
- Disassemble the unit, wash the bearings free of the old grease, pack XADO grease to 1/2–2/3 of the free volume and reassemble the unit.Once, no stages
- Run-in at idle: 2 hours with a gradual increase of the spindle speed from 100 to 3000 rpm, in steps every 10–15 minutes.Immediately after assembly
After treatment
- The full cycle is at least 400 hours of total machine operating time.
- The declared increase in bearing service life is not less than 2 times.
Points to watch
- The bearing is filled with grease to 1/2–2/3 of the free volume; filling the entire volume is not allowed.
- Ovality, taper and roughness are measured on one and the same workpiece, with the same instrument, at the same cutting modes.
- Careful adjustment of the preload in the bearing supports is required.
